The Fat Man
Recorded in New Orleans with Dave Bartholomew in December 1949, "The Fat Man" sold a million copies on rolling boogie-woogie piano and a backbeat, and is regularly named the first rock and roll record on commercial grounds rather than stylistic ones.

Ain't That a Shame to Blueberry Hill
From 1955 the same records were sold to white teenagers as rock and roll, and Domino became one of its biggest sellers without changing what he played. He changes lines here, which is the point: the music did not change, the market did.
