That's All Right
A Mississippi bluesman recording for RCA's Bluebird label, Crudup wrote and cut "That's All Right" in 1946 over a driving rhythm that sounds like rock and roll eight years early. Elvis Presley's 1954 cover made the song famous and made Presley's career; Crudup saw almost none of the royalties and went back to farm labour, and the long fight over his publishing is one of the standing indictments of the record business.
