The line diagram

Each member is a lane on the year axis, in the colour of the line the band was on. A filled station marks a joining, an open one a departure, a square a death. The dotted rail is a reunion. A dotted branch leads to a band that grew out of this one, or in from a band its members came from. The table below lists the same spells.

The line

  1. Grunge1987 to 1994

    Aberdeen to Nevermind

Formed in Aberdeen, Washington by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, with a drum chair that turned over five times before Dave Grohl took it in 1990. Nevermind (1991) took the Seattle sound to the top of the Billboard chart; Cobain's death in April 1994 ended the band.

Lineage

Dave Grohl recorded the first Foo Fighters album alone in late 1994, months after Nirvana ended, and built a band around it.
