The line diagram

Each member is a lane on the year axis, in the colour of the line the band was on. A filled station marks a joining, an open one a departure, a square a death. The dotted rail is a reunion. A dotted branch leads to a band that grew out of this one, or in from a band its members came from. The table below lists the same spells.

    The finishing school

John Mayall formed the Bluesbreakers in 1963 with bassist John McVie. The guitar chair is British blues in miniature: Eric Clapton (1965 to 1966, the "Beano" album), Peter Green (1966 to 1967) and Mick Taylor (1967 to 1969), who left in turn for Cream, Fleetwood Mac and the Rolling Stones. Mayall led line-ups under the name for six decades and died in 2024.
