The lines
Linda Ronstadt's backing band to Desperado
Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner played behind Linda Ronstadt in 1971 and signed to Asylum as a band that year. Don Felder joined in 1974 and the sound hardened; Leadon left at the end of 1975.

Hotel California and the long reunion
Joe Walsh replaced Leadon, Timothy B. Schmit replaced Meisner in 1977, and Hotel California became one of the best-selling records ever made. The band broke up in 1980, reunited in 1994 for Hell Freezes Over, and dismissed Felder in 2001. Frey died in 2016; his son Deacon and Vince Gill took his parts from 2017.
Key album: Hotel California, 1976
